What is netlinking?
I often talk to you about SEO optimization, but today let's focus on a particularly strategic lever: netlinking.
Simply put, it's the act of obtaining links pointing to your site from other sites. These links are also known as backlinks,
are votes of confidence. Google interprets them as signs that your content is worth promoting. Sounds simple enough,
but in reality, not all links have the same value.
Types of links in SEO
Dofollow links
Ah, the famous dofollow links! They're the most coveted. And why? Because they transmit what's known as link juice,
otherwise known as «SEO juice». They have a direct impact on your ranking. If you get a dofollow link from an authority site,
in a relevant context, you can see a real improvement in your visibility.
Nofollow links
Nofollow links, on the other hand, don't officially send any SEO juice. That said, I don't recommend ignoring them altogether.
They can generate traffic, improve your brand awareness, and balance your link profile to look more natural.
In SEO, subtlety often pays off better than brutality.
Sponsored links or UGC
When you buy a link or a user generates one (in a forum, for example), it must be tagged «sponsored» or «ugc».
Google considers them to have a reduced weight, which is normal. That said, in certain contexts (partnership, PR campaign),
these links are still useful. You just have to understand their limits.
What factors determine the weight of a link?
It's obvious that not all links are created equal. But how do you know if a link is powerful? Here are the criteria
I always take into account :
- Referring site authority the more recognized the site, the more valuable the link
- Thematic relevance a link from a site in the same universe carries much more weight
- Link position a link in the body of the text is worth much more than a link in the footer
- Anchor text the anchor must be natural, but optimized
- Number of outbound links one page linking to 50 sites dilutes value
- Page depth a link from a page close to home is generally stronger
What's the most powerful link in SEO?
If I had to define the perfect SEO link, it would be a dofollow link, inserted naturally in an article paragraph,
on a recognized site in the same field as yours, with an optimized anchor, not too long, and above all...
not drowned in a sea of other links.
This kind of link is rare, but that's precisely what makes it so valuable. It acts as a strong editorial recommendation,
and Google loves it.
Best practices for powerful links
Building a good backlink profile takes time, I grant you. But with rigor and a little creativity,
it's perfectly feasible. Here are the practices I recommend:
- Write original, value-added content
- Guest blog on influential sites in your sector
- Forging partnerships with content publishers
- Collaborate with journalists via the digital press
- Avoid general directories or dubious link networks
A sustainable SEO strategy is built on solid foundations. There's no need to look for quantity. What counts is
intention, consistency and quality.
FAQ
Is a nofollow link completely useless?
Absolutely not. It may very well bring you visitors, visibility, and enrich your link profile.
It's part of a natural strategy.
How many links do you need to rank well?
It's a question I'm often asked, but the answer is: it depends. On certain keywords with little competition,
a few good links may suffice. On highly competitive queries, you'll need a lot more... but still quality links.
In SEO, links aren't just another tool. They are the expression of your reputation
on the web. By focusing on relevant, powerful backlinks that are well-integrated into your overall strategy, you're laying the groundwork for your site's success.
the foundations of a sustainable positioning. And in my opinion, that's the real goal.
